Zicklin School of Business Graduate Orientations
By Ginny Goldberg

What a great start to the 2008-2009 academic year! The last few weeks of August were buzzing with activity as we welcomed a record setting 475+ MBA and MS students during four distinct orientation programs.

New Student Orientation is an innovative and exciting program that serves as an introduction to graduate life at the Zicklin School of Business. It encompasses academic and career advisement, professional development training and networking opportunities. It’s a time for new students to meet current students, faculty and administration.

The Full-Time Honors MBA Orientation began August 4 and concluded August 20. Totaling 60 hours, the orientation focused on career management, cross-cultural communication, presentation skills, leadership, and team-building. The new cohort of 75 students were energized, highly motivated, and expertly prepared for their first semester.

The Flex-Time/Accelerated Part-Time (APT) Orientation, conducted over two days, kicked off on Thursday, August 21st as we saw hundreds of new students walking through our doors. The Newman Vertical Campus was an exciting place to be! From the minute new graduate students arrived they sensed the warm and friendly culture and camaraderie and had the immediate feeling that they made the best choice for graduate school.

You could hear new students asking alumni and current students questions about courses, resources, schedules, faculty and graduate clubs. Where do you recommend I get my books? Is there a special place you like to eat? Tell me about your professors. What was your major? The enthusiasm was contagious!

After welcomes from John Elliott, Dean of the Zicklin School of Business, and President Kathleen Waldron, the students were escorted to the conference centers on the 14 floor of the Newman Vertical Campus. There, they were met by Zicklin faculty and staff, and students from over 20 graduate student clubs encouraging membership and involvement in Zicklin student life.

The food and beverages flowed as the conversations blossomed. In a few hours we witnessed the beginning of many lifelong relationships!
