The Changing Landscape for our Undergraduate Accounting Students
By Phyllis Zadra, Associate Dean

The New York State CPA licensing requirement will change next year. As of August 1, 2009, anyone who wants to become a CPA must have 150 credit hours of course work (as opposed to the current 120 credit hours). Most states already require 150-credit hours. Baruch students who graduate with our BBA degree by June 2009 will be able to sit for the CPA exam without taking additional credits AS LONG AS they apply to take the exam by August 1, 2009. That is, the application form has to be submitted by August 1. Student then have 18 months to pass all four parts of the exam.

The Stan Ross Department of Accountancy expects students who complete our undergraduate program after Spring 2009 and who plan to become CPAs to enroll in one of our 5 Year Bachelor's/Master's CPA Programs. (MS in Accountancy or MS in Taxation are the graduate options). Special graduate admission standards and an abbreviated MS application process are provided for these students.
