Student Spotlight

WHAT OUR GRADUATE STUDENTS HAVE BEEN DOING
By E. Liakaris

Over the last few months our graduate students and recent graduates have been out and about representing the Zicklin brand in a variety of ways.

Terry Warren, a current Flex-Time MBA student is the Social Media Intern for NOWNESS.com, a new LVMH (Moet Hennessy*Louis Vuitton ) brand and web platform that features daily exclusives on the latest in fashion, art, cinema, music, design, travel, and global luxury.

Terry works with the marketing team and is responsible for developing and implementing the group's Facebook and Twitter strategies as well as reaching out to bloggers to build awareness in order to drive traffic to the NOWNESS.com site. She loves that she’s part of an international team and that she is tending to an online audience all over the world. Terry is continuing her internship through the fall.

Connelly Williams spent the summer working for Dapple, a line of natural-based cleaning products for households with children.

She has been fully immersed in all aspects of this small business: from managing accounts, updating social media, and developing new marketing initiatives. Connelly was given the opportunity to travel throughout the North East and her home-state, Texas, visiting stores and training employees.

Connelly is enrolled in the Full-Time Honors MBA Program and is working with Dapple through the fall.

Zicklin Women in Business

The Zicklin Women in Business, a pre-professional graduate student association, hosted a three part networking series called Women in Leadership featuring women in Consulting, Human Resources and Finance throughout the month of September. The series was a great success which provided a wealth of knowledge regarding career development in those industries, networking tips, and work life balance experiences.

Executive Student Partnership Program

The Executive Student Partnership is celebrating its 10th year at Baruch College; each year the program matches students with an executive mentor for an academic year. The program is coordinated by Executives On Campus, along with the Starr Career Center and the Graduate Career Management Center.

This past year Sean Yangyang Xiao was mentored by Mr. Stanley Back. Through his mentorship he had the opportunity to create a presentation on “”HR Practices in China” based on his experience prior to pursuing his MBA. As a result, Sean is now working with an expat senior manager from China to create an HR presentation based on their combined expertise, which they will conduct this October.

Sean is grateful for his mentor’s guidance and support throughout the year, and is looking forward to the lifelong connection with Mr. Back. He is graduating in May 2011 with his MBA.
