NEWS FROM THE STUDENT LIFE OFFICE
By B Parrott

The Student Life Office is a whirlwind of activity with new and existing programs available for student participation on and off campus. Here’s an example of four initiatives that encourage social responsibility or have a positive impact on quality of life for students at Baruch.

  1. Cell Phone Donation
Everyone on campus is encouraged to recycle used cell phones to aid victims of domestic and dating violence. The U Hope Line recycle bin is located just outside the Student Life Office (NVC 2-210), to collect donated equipment. The Verizon organization spearheaded this program and donated $1,000 to the Student Life Office in appreciation for Baruch’s participation.

  2. Blood Drive
Four times per year the Baruch Student Life office sponsors a Blood Drive. Our most recent drive took place on October 5th and 6th in the Multipurpose Room of the Newman Vertical Campus Building. On average 150 pints of blood are collected at each blood drive. We urge students, faculty and administrators to support this important effort. Watch the Student Life web page for dates of our next Blood Drive.

  3. Theater Tickets – Broadway and Off-Broadway Shows
Baruch is one of four colleges that participate in the Collegetix Program that offers students at Baruch, NYU, Columbia and Queens College, access to Broadway and Off Broadway shows at a reduced purchase price of $25.00 - $40.00. You must be a student to be eligible to purchase tickets or attend Shubert shows, which are subject to change each week. Tickets can be purchased at the Student Life Office or through Telecharge.

  4. Collegiate Link – New Web Based Application
Beginning this fall, recognized student groups and clubs will be required to re-register with the Student Life Office using the new Collegiate Link Computer System. During phase one of the project, the new application will provide member access to a dedicated system where interactive communication will be available. Subsequent phases will include the development and introduction of comprehensive reports designed to analyze and support business and administrative operations.
