Zicklin Leadership on YouTube
Dear Zicklin Community,

As we near the end of an eventful academic year we urge you to read about the creative activities that made this a special year. In this Newsletter, we call your attention to articles on

  • CUNY’s new way of doing business (“Why ‘ERP’ Will Soon Sound Good to Us”)
  • how Baruch is helping to save the planet (“Help Baruch Go Green!”)
  • why Zicklin students are not bored (“Baruch Students Help Taxpayers Get over $5.6 Million in Refunds”, “Zicklin Grad Students Consider Government”)
  • what our faculty and staff do in their “spare time” (“In case you think we don’t have lives outside of Baruch…”)
  • what our friends do to help us (“Zicklin’s Graduate Leadership Speaker Series”).
In all cases you will have an opportunity to “click through” to more extensive coverage of the topic.

We are planning for our AACSB maintenance of accreditation visit in the fall 2009. Efforts are ongoing to revise our mission statement, update our bylaws, refresh our strategic plan and continuously improve all that we do.

Our open houses and other recruiting activity for fall of 2009 are playing to SRO crowds. My thanks to all of the faculty and staff members who volunteer for these events and for their extraordinary commitment to our mission, to our students and to each other.

In our last newsletter we asked “In your opinion, how long will it take the economy to turn around?” The results are shown in this issue’s poll question. Now, 6 months later, we want to know if your opinion has changed. Be sure to click on the Dean’s Quick Poll below to let us know. We’ll report back next time.

As always, our faculty meetings communicate information on important topics which we do not repeat here. I refer faculty and staff members alike to the minutes of those meetings (Click Here).

We continue to invest in the web; this serves as the key portal of information for people inquiring into programs at Baruch College. I encourage you to visit the Baruch and Zicklin homepages regularly as a way to stay current with school events.

As we head into the summer months I want to wish you all well. If you are vacationing, be safe and enjoy your time away. If you will be on campus, either teaching or doing research, we appreciate your involvement.

Best regards,

Help Baruch Go Green!
The international scientific community is speaking in a united voice: the climate change we are witnessing is a result of human activity and the emission of greenhouse gases into the environment. New York City is responding. Through Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s PlaNYC, the City will reduce its global warming emissions from the 2007 levels by 30% by 2017. CUNY and Baruch College have signed on to the plan. Read More

Zicklin Grad Students Consider Government
The call for change figured prominently in last year’s presidential campaign. Inspiring hope and the prospect of transformation, change was something many were beckoning. Now, change seems to have taken on a different connotation. Since the financial services meltdown, in the fall of 2008, not a day has gone by without significant change to the employment landscape. To be a graduate business student in these times means managing staggering uncertainty and a near constant evaluation of career goals. Read More

Faculty & Staff Spotlight
In case you think we don’t have lives outside of Baruch …
I’m sure we all know that Zicklin has some of the greatest faculty and staff. We see proof of that each day in our offices and in the classrooms. But, if you are under the impression that the only thing our faculty does is teach, think again. Read More

Why ‘ERP’ Will Soon Sound Good to Us
ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning and, for CUNY and Baruch College, it means simpler information processing in Student Administration, Human Resources and Finance. The CUNYfirst initiative … will replace aging legacy systems like SIMS, CUPS and E-Procurement and help us streamline and standardize many of the things we do. Read More
