1) SHARI DAVIS - Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc,
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc, was founded January 16, 1920 on the principles of scholarship, service, sisterly love and finer womanhood. Ninety years later, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc and "Elite" Epsilon Chapter (which governs Manhattan and the Bronx) continue to implement service initiatives, programs and forums based on those principles. Epsilon Chapter is currently composed of 5 remarkable young women, 2 of which (Shara Davis and Shelly Malbranche) attend Baruch College. Both on Baruch College's campus and in the general community, these 2 young ladies along with the rest of their chapter continue to affect the community. Most recently they hosted Shades of Black - the 1st Annual Black History Month Gala as a part of "Images of Black America," Baruch College's 2010 Black History Month Celebration. At the Gala, they disbursed Epsilon Chapter's Z.E.A.L. (Zetas Encouraging A Leader) Scholarship Award to a recent high school graduate. Epsilon Chapter has also donated over $1000 in school supplies this year to under privileged schools within their Manhattan and the Bronx jurisdiction. If this isntisn’t enough, Epsilon Chapter also gives tireless hours of community service and hosts workshops and forums both on and off of Baruch College's campus.

We are delighted to share news about Jenny’s story and creations.
3) Another great Student Competition (by Ellen King)
Congratulations to our Baruch Team: Yuri Prokhorov, Dave Sedelnick and Oytun Sepin, all members of our Full-Time Honors MBA class of 2010, for successfully competing in the final round of the New York ACG (Association for Corporate Growth) Cup competition. They won second place, sharing the prize of $1000, behind NYU. Other schools participating included Cornell, Fordham, Hofstra, and Pace. This is the second year this competition has taken place in New York State. The event took place at the Legg Mason headquarters in Times Square. A reception followed on the top of the NY Times Building with ACG members, competition judges and all team members. Many thanks go to Professors Raj Nahata, Ashok Vora, and Gwen Webb for their dedicated work. They worked closely with the team for many weeks. Team members expressed that the ACG Cup was a great opportunity to present before, and network with, a wide range of professionals in M&A, investment banking, financial advisory and private equity.
Congratulations on a great outcome!

Staff BuZZ

1) Meet Sharon Belden Castonguay
Sharon Belden Castonguay is our new Director of the Graduate Career Management Center. She has over a decade of experience working with business professionals at all levels of their careers. Most recently she served as an assistant director for PhD career services at Harvard, where she worked with students seeking to transition from academe to business. Prior to Harvard she was an assistant director of graduate career services at the Boston University School of Management, where she managed MBA career services and taught a course in career development. Through her career consulting practice she has worked with many other top universities, and has become a sought-after speaker on career-related topics. She received her doctorate in human development from Harvard, where her research focused on how businesspeople make career decisions. She also holds an MA in Education from the University of Michigan and a BA in Government from Smith College
2) Meet Barbara Parrott
Barbara Parrott is a member of the ReServe organization that offers mature and retired workers the opportunity to use professional lifetime skills for the public good. This program was created during 2005 and introduced exclusively in New York City. It offers part-time, compensated positions in the non-profit and public sectors and brings challenge and fulfillment to a segment of workers who have a strong desire to give back.

Barbara joined Associate Dean Phyllis Zadra’s administrative staff at the Zicklin School last November. “I feel privileged and honored to have the opportunity to make small contributions to such a large and respected business school. I know this from personal experience because, as a graduate of Baruch College, I enjoyed a long and respected business career, which I attribute to the quality education I received at Baruch.”

The journey that brought Barbara back to the Baruch College family has roots in corporate America, despite the fact that the culture, mandates and objectives are vastly different. Barbara had a successful career in sales and marketing management, and traveled extensively throughout North America. Her responsibilities brought her in direct contact with professionals at all levels, where she influenced and contributed to business operations within the media and retail marketing sectors.

“When I reflect back on my career, I am reminded how fortunate I’ve been to have had wonderful mentors who provided knowledge, challenge, guidance, and support as I matured into more responsible business positions. This enabled me to achieve director- level positions at a variety of media organizations, where I managed multi-million-dollar business units.

What I hope to do with the experience that I bring to Baruch, is transform some of the ways in which various constituents of the Zicklin community share information with each other and, importantly, with the college. I look forward to talking with more of you and listening to your ideas as to how we at Zicklin and Baruch College might function even more effectively than we do today.”
