Prestigious First Place Award Granted to Baruch College MBA Students
On Thursday, March 13, there was a phone call from Houston! "We won first
place." It is with great pleasure that we inform everyone that the Zicklin
School of Business/Baruch College students won the Executive Leadership
Council (ELC) 2008 Business Case Competition sponsored by Shell Oil Company.
Impressive submissions were sent from schools from all over the country.
Over 20 schools including Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management,
University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, Cornell’s Johnson
Graduate School of Management and University of Chicago Graduate School of
Business, entered the competition. Judges from ELC and Shell Oil selected
the top three submissions (Baruch College, University of Michigan, Florida
A&M ). As the judges announced the winning teams, Cameca Johnson said: "I
was so nervous...I can’t believe we won".
Dean John Elliott has repeatedly espoused and encouraged student
participation in case competitions. This was the first year that Baruch
College participated in the ELC competition with submissions from two
Zicklin MBA teams. One team was chosen for the final round. Working and
planning together they created their business case analysis. The Saturday
before the competition they met at Baruch College to review their
presentation with Associate Dean Myung-Soo Lee. The students are extremely
grateful for Professor Lee’s assistance.
The first place team members are: Rory Christian, Nicole Daignault-O’Malley,
Cameca Johnson, Alexander Keel and Sonya Spencer-Rocvil. They submitted
their application in December 2007, received the case study in January and
submitted their case analysis in February 2008. Several weeks later they
were notified that they were chosen as one of the top three teams to defend
their proposal in Houston, TX on Thursday, March 13. Their enthusiasm,
energy, tenacity and expertise were well rewarded.
